Birthday Muffins & Mini DIY flags | A Freebie

July 25th  •  Posted in Recipe

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday. We don’t buy presents for each other birthdays anymore since a few years ago, but my sister isn’t a cake kind of person either so it’s no fun baking for her, however since I discovered this muffins recipe a few years ago, she always asks for them on her birthday day and this year was the same. I woke up pretty early and bake these deliciousness for her breakfast and came up with the idea of making some little DIY mini flags to place on the muffins and make them more festive, then opened Photoshop and start creating…

The muffins came out delicious as always, my sister loved them as every year especially the creamy heart which is her favourite part (and secretly my favourite too) and was super excited about how festive, nice and colorful they looked with those freshly made birthday flags. I think they can make the perfect dessert to bring to someone else home when you’re a guest or to serve to a birthday party as well with those cute flags which are super duper easy to make (no jokes).

For up to 11 Nutella and Chocolate Muffins you’ll need:

  • 170g of white flour
  • 2 tablespoon of cocoa powder
  • 110g of softened margarine
  • 110g of white sugar
  • 2 big eggs
  • 3 teaspoons of baking powder
  • Nutella for the creamy heart
  • Icing sugar and sprinkles to decorate
This recipe is super easy and quick. First things first preheat the oven to 190°C then start by sifting the cocoa powder and the white flour in a large bowl. Weigh the softened margarine and add it to the bowl together with the white sugar and the baking powder. Lastly lightly beat the two large eggs together and add them to the rest of the ingredients then start mixing all together with a spoon. If your margarine is soft enough it will be super easy to create a smooth batter with a spoon only, otherwise you’ll may need the help of a whisk – all up to you! Once the muffins batter is ready and smooth, place up to 11 paper muffins cups in a muffins baking tin, then using a pair of teaspoons start creating a sandwich of a teaspoon of muffin batter + a teaspoon of nutella + a teaspoon of muffin batter. Make sure the first and last floors are pretty even and flat in the cups so that the nutella in the middle won’t escape at the bottom or at the top during the baking session. Then place the tin in the oven for 20 minutes at 190°C and once baked, leave them rest and cool for 15 minutes before tasting. Sprinkle some icing sugar and colorful sprinkles on top to decorate.
As for the flags, all you need to do is to download and print this freebie mini flags template, cut them, glue the back, place a toothpick right in the middle and then fold in on itself and make the end of the flags match. That’s it! Place them on your birthday muffins or cakes and serve.
What’s your favourite birthday dessert?

Mini Goals | July

July 24th  •  Posted in Lifestyle

I know it’s kinda late for my monthly mini goals now but July was a very busy month and I totally forgot of writing this post down until today. I love writing these posts though, and I feel like they’re interesting to read too, and being that July isn’t completely over yet, I thought I can still share some goals for the month and some of those have already been accomplished.

Enjoy my summer – I have big dream and goals for the future and most of them need to have a clue as soon as possible, but being that this year I’ve not been the luckier person so far, and that all I really need right now is to feel happy and calm and thoughtless, I just want to enjoy the most out of this summer and shift all the challenging plans to the end of it. I need time to think and this is for sure, but for now I’m trying to seize upon every single opportunity that pops up to be purely happy and nothing else, and I think this is all I need to really improve my mood.

Work out and be healthier – I’m not a fan of strict diets and will never be, but one thing I want to do is to try to eat as healthier as possible from now on as well as try to work out more (even though it’s such a pain with this hot weather right now), because I feel my body really needs this right now as well as my self-esteem.

Start buying on a pre-established budget – I used to buy way too many makeup and skincare products just a few months ago but at this time I’m trying to manage my money in a better way and treat my self only when I really need it and not on a regular basis as I used to. I think the best way to be more responsible with my purchases is pre-establish a budget for my treats every two or three months and stick to it religiously without exceptions.

What about your July’s goals?

Dinner and a Movie

July 22nd  •  Posted in Lifestyle

It doesn’t happen to us pretty often to have a concrete time to have a classic date in the evening like a dinner and a movie kind of thing, being that we don’t live close to each other and that we always have to leave early in the evening for the last train. As you probably already know though, me and my boyfriend are spending a week or two together lately and when he asked me what I liked to do on Friday night, I had no doubt: we still had to have our first serious dinner and a movie date.

First things first, there’s nothing cuter than the boyfriend that picks some flowers up for you while you’re booking some movie tickets, and you simply have to Instagram the moment.

I know a lot of people aren’t fans of cinemas in summertime, but I think it’s very nice especially because there’s not too many people and it’s quieter (which is always nice), plus it’s a pleasure to be in a fresh place when it’s so hot outside. On the other hand there’re not too many new movies releases in summertime which is sad, but being that we never go to the cinema, we still had to watch Maleficent, of which both of us were super curious about, and we didn’t care if it is kind of old now, we just wanted some quality time watching a movie we were interested in. And it was good.

Food-wise we couldn’t ask anything better. We had dinner right next to the cinema and had the most delicious lasagna alla caprese of all; fries were needed as well as two different desserts that we shared as always just to have two different options: the chocolate salami is my weakness, add coconut flakes and strawberry and I’m completely sold, while the classic tiramisu was perfect as well!

Can’t really complain about our long distance relationship when we still are able to do this kind of things. This was definitely my perfect dream date and it couldn’t be nicer – yes, we also had popcorn.

What about your dream date?
