Solo trip to Milan

Solo Trip To Milan

Exactly one week ago I was up and about for a trip to Milan on my very own for the first time in what seems like ages. I had my camera with me because I was heading to a Lush blogger event, and it took me half a second to realize Spring was finally showing its precense for the first time this year and that this precious moment and those beautiful trees covered in blossoms would be worth to be photographed.

There’s something about Spring that makes everything special, even a pale city with a small amount of greenery involved. And there’s something in spotting trees covered in pink blossoms that fills my heart of joy and excitement for the new season, new plans, new opportunities and all the beautiful colours of flowers!

I thought it would be a good plan to seize the opportunity and, since I needed to be in Milan for a good half of the afternoon, head there a bit earlier to catch up with some well-deserved shopping, however I ended up staring and trying to take some nice shots of every beautiful tree I could spot for half of the time I was there. And the rest? Just casually sipping an extra sweet chai latte from 12oz, while contemplating if it was OK or not for me to purchase fresh flowers from the street if I had just bought a bunch of tulips the previous day. Oh, and also stocking on Muji pens – because that’s what I usually do in Milan.

I was happy I decided to not indulge in a too overpriced small brownie once I walked into Lush and spotted the cutest rapeseed-flowers-themed cupcakes & brownie bites instalment courtesy of Vanilla Bakery! The event, which also involved all kind of Easter themed bath goodies (think of bunny-shaped shower jellies, glittery golden eggs bath bombs, violet scented bath bubble baths, chick shaped bath bombs inside egg shaped bath bombs & more!), revolved around their #ForFukushima campaign to spread hope across Japan and raising money for the FunDing project.

It was amazing to discover how Lush is supporting Japan by buying rapeseed oil from there for their soaps and products, which is a plant full of hope for Fukushima since it’s been discovered it can actually absorb and eliminate radioisotopes from the soil without showing any trace of contaminants in the oil produced from its seeds, becoming also a big source of recovery for people living in that area. They’re also promoting their Rainbow Fun and all the products from the Fun line, to support and donate to communities working in the area to protect children’s health and happyness (totally worth checking out, they will also make your baths beautiful and colourful!).

This is such a good time to step into Lush, with so many awesome campaigns and pastel coloured products (I love my pastel baths!).

I hope Spring can stay around as long as possible – it’s (not very) secretly my favourite season
to visit the city and just in general!

Etsy Favourite Finds #2

Whoa! It has been over an year since I shared my last Etsy Favourite Finds post! It was in my plans, one year ago, to keep supporting small businesses on Etsy and sharing the love on this blog once in a while, and although I’ve kept buying from my favourite creatives, I only recently realized a blog post about them was a bit overdue by now!

So here I have a list of three more favourite creatives that sell on Etsy totally worth checking out if you’re a lover of handmade!

Etsy Favourite Finds #2
Petite Mila

Freelance web designer Caroline founded Petite Mila in 2013 with her first collection of 12 unique tote bag designs and then expanded with the production of pouches and art prints, all with her beautiful signature style and all produced in the south of France with organic cotton!

I’ve already bought a good amount of pouches from her shop, one for me (because the Cat Pouch seemed to have my name printed all over it) and others for gifts, and they’re the prettiest: Caroline surely knows what she’s doing on the design front because each pattern is very unique, simple but always interesting. The cotton is the softest and each bag is beautifully made as well!

Can *not* suggest her products enough, really, but please just don’t buy them all because I need them for my gifts, OK?!

Oana Befort

I’ve been following Oana since a very long time on all kinds of social media (and I’d leave it there or you’ll think I’m a tiny bit creepy..!), but she really is one of the most inspirational creatives online to me! She founded her business back in 2010 after giving birth to her adorable Sammy and decided to start selling her illustrations in stationery and prints form on Etsy.

She illustrates with watercolour and has the most unique, beautiful, detailed style I’ve ever seen! She focuses on nature, both flora and fauna, and if I was asked which one between the two I love more I wouldn’t be able to answer! She sells beautiful paper goods like postcards, prints, notebooks and also temporary tattoos (need to have them all.) and, although she is based in Romania, she ships from the US but her shipping costs are actually very small and each order from her shop comes with a beautiful envelope & re-usable thank you card (but I won’t spoil you the surprise!).

Just check out her blog to have a look at her beautiful, inspiring work!

 Season Paper

After popping one of their beautifully designed notebooks in my Spring Wishlist last month, I decided to actually buy the notepad version of it because it was too pretty to not to!

Based in Paris, Season Paper designs and produces beautiful notebooks, notepads, cards, tote bags, planners and much more and… it’s pattern heaven. Please pop over on their shop or website if you happen to be able to appreciate a fairly huge amount of astoundingly equally *amazing* patterns. Just do yourself a favor, OK?

I have bought my notepad a few weeks ago and now I’ve just checked their shop once again to write this post and already want to do a new order because… so many new beautiful patterns in there!!

How to Become a Morning Person

How To Become a Morning Person

You might know by now I’ve always been a morning person since I was a little girl. I’ve always enjoyed waking up early to get to appreciate the morning light at its fullest and I’ve always thought mornings are when my creativity hits its highest points. I love everything about early mornings, I enjoy waking up those 10 minutes earlier just to give myself enough time to have a proper getting-ready routine, or prepare breakfast from scratch, or do some yoga or stretching to start the day.

I know most of the people don’t really feel the same about early mornings: some say you really start appreciating them once you get older, but truth is I know people who never really get to like them, while I also know for a fact that people who do like them usually feel like that since forever. However, especially for someone who works from home or office, sometimes it’s essential to wake up early in the day – but becoming a morning person shouldn’t be a sacrifice!

I want to share a few tips and tricks that could help anyone struggling with getting out of bed in the morning, and a few reasons to come to enjoy the early hours of a day a little bit more!

ALARM + ROUTINE

I love mornings but something I have always hated is my alarm: I like to wake up naturally or I will feel stressed about the day ahead and frustrated later on, that’s for sure! One thing I love is to keep my curtains open during the night in those periods of the year when the sun rises around the same hour as I should wake up, so that the first morning light will gradually and naturally wake me up and I can start my day with a good mood. It totally makes sense if you think our body is prone to be awake when it’s light outside, whereas it usually induces us to sleep when it’s dark instead!

That works for me since I work from home and if I wake up 15 minutes later than usual it’s not a big deal, but if you’re not someone who wouldn’t naturally wake up if the quality of light in the room changes, alarms are still essential. Try something like the Sleep Cycle App: it detects your sleeping pattern (through a microphone, so no harmful electromagnetic waves thrown at you while you sleep, plus you can set you phone to Flight Mode and still use it) and wakes you up with an alarm when your sleep is lighter around the hour you decide you want to wake up, so that getting out of the covers won’t be as traumatic as usual.

The same way it’s important to have a consistent nighttime routine before bedtime in order to have a good night sleep, it’s essential to have a getting-ready routine in the morning: your body and mind will start to recognize the steps you repeat everyday and will automatically set you in a better mood, ready to start your day. Try a simple skincare routine to start, maybe just a cleanser and lip balm – it will make all the difference!

Breakfast

Breakfast can be something you find yourself to unconsciously put off until you step out of the door, especially if you are not used to organize your time and priorities in the morning or to get up those 10 minutes earlier. But it’s still very important and something that can help a lot with waking you up properly. Eat something as first thing as you get out of bed and you’ll feel more productive and everything will come more naturally and stress-free.

I personally love to take my time to prepare breakfast from scratch as it has always been my favourite meal in a day, however I can see how people is prone to skip it just because they don’t find time for it. Just remember things like a smoothie or porridge will take only 5 minutes of your time to be prepared! You surely can find time for them!

Avoid Caffeine

This is something I really don’t like to suggest because I love my coffee in the morning, however I’m still trying to go for a healthier alternative or decaf these days. Apparently coffee in the morning isn’t ideal because caffeine tends to increase the production of cortisol in our bodies, that is higher around the hours we usually drink coffee in the morning. Cortisol is considered a stress-related hormone, so instead of properly making you feel better about mornings, coffee as first thing in the day can lead to stress.

Try decaf tea instead if you like it, as hot water in the first hours of the morning is also great to increase metabolism. Or, if you’re nostalgic about summertime in colder months, you could try a “Sunshine In A Bottle” lemon smoothie, packed with healthy ingredients that will make you feel excited about your breakfast!
