Learning To Knit

Learning To Knit

Everytime I start something new, I can immediately tell if it’s something I’m going to be obsessed with. And this is exactly how it went when I started this “learning to knit” thing of mine!

I’m such a granny, I know, I know! But everything that calls for an endless number of cups of tea, layers of chunky blankets, cosying up and staying warm especially in this cold season, simply has my name written all over it.

You might have seen me featuring this chunky pink yarn in one of my Christmas Gift Guides; well, that was just an excuse to *finally* getting started somewhere, after the longest period spent stalking down all the knitting-themed Instagram profiles.

I actually remember being a fan of knitting and crochet since I was little, and admiring the women in my family for all the lovely works they made back then. When I shot these pictures I was still working on my very first hat, which has now been worn a couple of times already and that I love more than anything! I guess it’s the effect of holding your own finished product in your hands!

And I have now started a new hat already, which I’m even more excited about! But what I love the most, let’s face it, is curling up in the evening in front of a TV series, popping my PJs and chunky socks on and enjoying such a cosy hobby!

I’m not a pro or anything, as you can imagine, but it’s just the relaxing calming environment that makes it all so enjoyable to me. I’m loving Wool And The Gang a lot, for their video tutorials as well as their kits and patterns, but I’ve also just discovered Red Heart and I’m obsessed, so many amazing free patterns for all the skills and all the projects!

You can be sure I’ll soon have a new cosy blanket and, quite certainly, a couple of new mittens too!

Try These :: Spring Weekend

Try These: Spring Weekend

I can not express my love for Spring weekends at words! There’s nothing more lovely to finally have a sunny weekend day all for yourself after spending the whole week looking forward to it, and enjoying the hours of beautiful light outside doing things that involve nature, soil, fresh flowers, tidying, and all those things that make Spring a refreshing and renewing season!

I don’t really think there’s anyone who doesn’t love Spring as a season anyway, but if you happen to lack on Spring weekend activities ideas for any reasons, I have a nice little list for you to try and get creative outside & inside!

Grow your own kitchen garden

There’s nothing more lovely than bringing into the kitchen herbs and veggies you grew yourself! And you don’t even need a huge garden to grow something from scratch: even a small balcony would do the trick, and if you don’t have one, you can still grow your kitchen herbs inside into small vases!

Basil, mint and parsley are my favourites to sow and look after since I know I will give them a whole lot of love when cooking and baking as well!

Hand-lettering for the garden

One thing I love is categorize and add labels on everything, but something I love even more is hand-lettering my labels! There’s nothing nicer than hand-lettered plants labels in my opinion! Give them a try: it’s fun and will make your garden cuter!

Press flowers

I remember being a little girl and hand-picking my favourite flowers from the garden, only to go inside and keep them safe pressed between the pages of diaries and books. There’s something beautiful into pressed flowers, and it’s something I bet will most likely remind you of your own childhood, and your moms explaining how to preserve flowers like precious memories. But besides taking a trip down memory lane, you can do a lot of things with pressed flowers, like your own custom prints to hang into beautiful frames on your wall, or phone cases or patterns for any purposes really!

Tidy & change things

If you’re after that classic Spring refreshing and renewal feeling but going outside it’s not in your plan, try tidying your house, or moving your furniture around or changing things up! I know, it sounds a boring Sunday plan, but with the time I’ve come to enjoy a bit of spring cleaning: nothing can beat the refreshed feeling you’ll be left with right afterward, and you’ll be ready to start the new week with a whole lot of positive energies!

Last Minute DIY Gift Ideas

Last Minute DIY Gift Ideas

I like handmade things. Handmade gifts especially. Every Christmas I feel like between the many gifts I buy for others, the ones I create with my own hands are the most special and most appreciated. I’ve been putting together a cookies mix in a jar to give as gift to my favourite people the last few Christmasses – just a fun way to share my favourite recipes with them, but this year I thought I’d change things up a bit and have put together a bit of a different couple of handmade gift ideas!

These are great if you’re after a last minute DIY gift idea, or are planning to go for something made with your own hands this year! They both only require simple, easy to trace down, natural ingredients and make for festive little gifts perfect for wintertime!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate Mix

Ingredients ::
2 teaspoons grated hot chocolate
1 teaspoon white flour
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
Smashed peppermint candy canes

Place the ingredients in the previous proportions in a small 150ml jar repeating the same doses until the jar is full, then smash the candy canes and add them to the jar as well. Use a small teaspoon to stir all the ingredients together into the jar so that they’re all well combined. Download the labels here (or write them yourself!) and tie one of them to the jar with your red and white twine!

Rosemary + Lemon Sea Salt Body Scrub

Adapted from The Simple Things‘ body scrub recipe.

Ingredients ::
450g coarse salt
juice of 2 lemons
7-8 tablespoons olive oil
zest of 1 lemon
2-3 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped

Measure out the salt in a small bowl, add the olive oil and lemon juice, then grate the zest of 1 lemon and chop the rosemary leaves. Mix all the ingredients together until nicely combined. Spoon into small 150ml jars until full, then seal the lid and add a hand-written gift tag tied with your red and white twine. Suggest to keep in the fridge on the back of the gift tag!

Homemade Hazelnut Brittle

Homemade Hazelnut Brittle Sachets

Ingredients ::
Follow my recipe here

Brittle is extremely quick and easy to prepare! Follow my recipe here, then cut little squares of parchment paper and place each brittle piece between two foils, then pile them up, so that the singular pieces don’t stick together. Place them into transparent food sachets and tie with a red bow, add a small gift tag, and you’re done!
