The art of non-dreaded decluttering

Decluttering with Marie Kondo's 'The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up' book

You might remember me (or anyone really) raving about Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up book around this time last year and swearing by the fact that it drastically changed my way of organizing, storing and, in particular, getting rid of things. Well, last year I had a major wardrobe decluttering session I was extremely proud of after reading the book, and felt extremely inspired to see how I’d get on with maintaining my wardrobe a tidy space (which has never really been in it’s entire existence, really).

As with every January, this time of the year I feel very excited about fresh new starts and feel the urge of renewing everything I can see and think of. I was curious to see the results of Marie Kondo’s technique after one entire year, and so started tidying my wardrobe from top to bottom, and… I can now say I have finally discovered the art of non-dreaded decluttering!

Decluttering every little corner of the room!

Although I’m not sure how healthy it can be to take everything in Marie Kondo’s book too literally, it’s such an interesting read I can’t help but want to suggest to anyone. I’m especially a big fan of her decluttering method, that helped me get rid of so many things I have accumulated over the years and have never been able to decide what to do with them.

Last year the pile of clothes I was finally getting rid of was 3x the pile of what was going back into my wardrobe. Not only it helped me a whole lot with storing things and finding what I was looking for, but I discovered my wardrobe contained things I didn’t even remember I have bought or I was never able to find before… and I used to tidy my closet twice a year, it’s not to say I’ve never tried!

Not only I didn’t need to tidy my closet in Summer last year, but what’s even better, I was amazed by how quick this year’s wardrobe decluttering and tidying ended up being! I went through all my pieces of clothing and discovered only a very very small pile haven’t been useful this past year, which basically means I have used 90% of my closet during the year and I still love and want to wear every single piece that’s in there!

How my vision of tidying and decluttering has changed drastically

This basically means this January my only tidying task was getting rid of what I have realized I’m not going to use anymore during the year. And then put everything back in there, in order of what I’ll wear and in which season. I also found very inspiring most of Marie Kondo’s techniques of folding and storing clothes, which I’m still sticking to this time!

Half-an-hour later I was already done with my wardrobe and felt so inspired that I decided it was about time to do some serious decluttering in the whole room. I finally have a nicely tidy bookcase, and you know when they say ‘tidy space, tidy mind‘? Well, I don’t know how I was working all these past months when all I could see was a big overcluttered mess right next to me! I was even able to build a little neat tea section (because that makes me happy!) where before there was only space for randomly piling things up between one shelf and another.

Just in case you are curious, I’ve popped a couple more clothes I can’t quite bear the thought of throwing away (because they’re pretty good in conditions) on my Depop page for only a few ££ (everything under £10), just because I believe they should have a second chance and find a new home!

A selection of my favourite lounging products including PJs, candles and beauty bits

If you know me just a tiny bit, you’ll know I have a passion for loungewear and pyjamas especially! To me, there’s not a particular season to be a PJs lover, but comes wintertime and I’m all about staying cosy and warm and curling up whenever you can spot the occasion to.

Last month I had a major PJs wardrobe tidying session, to reveal I only really owned a couple of nice quality pyjamas sets, while the rest was either too childish or old. So of course I took the occasion to stock up on some new cosy and soft numbers and spoil myself and my obsession a tiny bit!

Today I’m doing a little roundup of the best lounging products and clothes of the season, hoping to inspire anyone who’s after a loungewear wardrobe refresh or is just looking for a spot of cosiness! Read on…

The top of quality

This is the time of the year where I can’t stop popping into Oysho each time I’m near one of their shops. Let’s face it: they do pyjamas like everyone should be doing them! Not only the patterns are always perfection, but so far they are the top of quality to me.

You might remember me including this floral PJs set in my autumnal wishlist this year, and when I spotted it discounted last month, I just couldn’t resist any longer! To me there’s nothing more flattering than a shirt-style pyjamas, add a romantic natural-looking floral pattern and beautiful rims and I’m sold!

I wanted to stock up my wardrobe with subtle elegant nightwear options, but when I saw their Long Dreams sausage dog set I just couldn’t help but fall in love! It has subtle glittery gold details all over, and it’s totally the cutest set I own at the very moment.

Lastly but not at least, Oysho is where I usually buy my slippers from, because they always have the nicest cosy option. They usually don’t last very long, but they’re quite inexpensive, which means I can have the chance of changing them a little bit more often. This year I went for their Plaited Wool Slippers but just check out the whole category because it’s totally amazing and I could have bought them all!

The soft & subtle must-have

As much as I’m a lover of beautifully designed PJs, I can’t go without a 100% comfortable and super soft option. And to me there’s nothing that resembles that more than my beloved Chelsea Peers Peachy PJs set! This one is subtle and warm and soft… and pink! And if it was decent, that’s what I’d wear all day everyday.

Top lounging products: cotton scented candles to make the room smell fresh

Lounging Products

As the occasions of cosying up are becoming more frequent as winter approaches, I’ve been gathering more ‘curly up’ relaxing lounging products, my favourite still being the L’Occitane Relaxing Pillow Mist, always making the room smelling so lovely, fresh and calming!

But I’ll admit I also have a thing for cotton scented candles recently, making the whole room smelling like freshly-washed laundry. A very nice inexpensive candle that falls under this category is the H&M Home Cotton Candle: the jar is so pretty, plus the candle is super powerful and the scent stays in the room for a while even after you’ve stopped burning it.

I can’t go without including my new favourite product from Lush, their Sleepy Body Lotion: this one is a mix of lavender and tonka, that makes applying a moisturiser such a nice, relaxing experience. And anything that it’s meant to be applied before popping into the duvet, always calls my name so loudly!

My Autumn Wishlist!

October 5th  •  Posted in Lifestyle

My Autumn Wishlist ft. ASOS Cachmere Sweater, Aurora Leather Shoes, Oysho Pyjamas & more!

I can’t really express how excited I am about Autumn this year! I have been looking forward to the season of chesnut-picking hikes, orange leaves everywhere, cosy blankets and sweaters and countless cup of tea so very much recently that I might or might not started being a bit impatient for the weather to get chillier, while it still feels too warm for tea at the moment around here.

And with the change of season, I’ve been wanting to invest in some nice new high quality pieces for my wardrobe and home, because, let’s be honest, there’s nothing I love more than autumnal shopping – only second to Christmas shopping, for sure! I surely am not wanting to exclude any candles or new mugs from the party, but I guess I need to admit I might have already built quite the collection on both the two fronts!

But I’ve eyed up a couple of beautiful soft cashmere pieces as well as some woods themed kitchenware this season, and I am surely also into health and fitness a lot more recently, hence why the cookbook and leggings picks couldn’t be left out of this Autumn wishlist of mine!
