Soy Vanilla Iced Latte

Soy Vanilla Iced Latte

It’s probably not quite the same everywhere, but here in Italy we’re literally experiencing Summer at its fullest potential, which is not extremely positive if you don’t have a pool or the sea a couple of steps out of reach. But what better excuse to have a few too many glasses of iced coffee if not the heat? … And the fact I need to find some extra energies somewhere or there’s no way I’ll get through these extremely busy working days?

But really, I don’t even need excuses anymore! Nor do you, even if you live somewhere where Mother Nature hasn’t got the memo just yet! It’s Summer after all, right?

Plus I’ve been making the most delicious, sweet, vanilla-ry iced coffee you’ve ever dreamt of, and, yes, a couple of times a day doesn’t even feel enough anymore. Keep reading if you’re after something addictive…

Soy Vanilla Iced Latte

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Serving Size: 1

Soy Vanilla Iced Latte

Ingredients

  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • 200ml vanilla soy milk*
  • 1 shot of coffee
  • 1 teaspoon raw brown sugar

  • * Or use classic soy milk or any non-dairy milk of your choice and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Instructions

01 :: Place the ice cubes in a tall glass and pour in the vanilla soy milk to fill 3/4 of the glass.

02 :: Make your coffee and stir in the brown sugar when still warm - do not add the sugar in the tall glass in the end or it won't melt.

03 :: Pour the sugared coffee in the tall glass all at once and use a straw to stir the layers together until uniform. Enjoy!

And that’s, in a nutshell, what I’ve been basically feeding myself with for the last few weeks (not literally, but quite similarly!). It’s so simple, quick but amazingly delicious that you really *HAVE* to give it a go yourself!

Caffeinated Summer Joys.

Caffeinated summer joys.

Caffeinated summer joys.

Caffeinated summer joys.

You’ll be aware of my love for coffee by now, but if there’s one thing I love more than a hot Italian cappuccino as first thing on a cold winter morning is iced American coffee on a super hot summer day spent wandering around a busy city. It has been a few months now that I’m on the hunt for beautiful, welcoming, pinterest-worthy coffee places and bakeries in Milan (I’m building quite a nice list of favourites!), and things usually start from me writing countless lists of places to try out after spending entire afternoons searching for suggestions, reviews and pictures on the internet, those lists go to lay in my handbag and usually come out when I’m near one of those places and want a suggestion on where to eat my lunch or drink my coffees.

But with 12oz Coffee Joint things went differently. I’ve not heard of it, or seen it on one of my usual day trip to Milan before (even if I walk by that particular spot quite often due to the presence of Muji right a few metres away), in fact I’m wondering when it did actually opened and launched, because it’s not really possible I haven’t located it before! We spotted it yesterday after lunch and made a promise to try it out one day or later in the afternoon if we were still around, but curiosity prevailed in the end and we found our way there to try a couple of their drinks…

I can’t really explain how lovely it felt to have a super cold drink after spending the day buying way too many cold water bottles and finishing them up too soon. I went for their Ice Breeze Caffé Choco and I wasn’t wrong: in its simplicity it was right up my street and totally what I needed! I surely want to come back and try out one (or two) of their Cold Ozy (flavoured coffee drinks topped with whipped cream and syrups) or their Fruit Ozy (100% fruit smoothies, with milk and topped with a mountain of whipped cream and sprinkles – which make the healthy bits of it a tiny bit less… healthy, but hey!). Their Tropical Smoothie though was a total healthy dream, made out of 100% fruit, you can pick two different tropical fruits from a long list, including açaì, mango, pineapple and more! Plus you can add milk, yogurt, soy milk or cinnamon/chocolate/hazelnut (etc.) syrups to all your coffees or smoothies, and they have 100% fruit juices too! Ah… that’s the best coffee (and smoothies) lover’s dream!

Not to mention I’ve spotted the most amazing variety of donuts, muffins and cookies and made a promise to myself I’d came back to try them all soon… and I can’t tell you how excited I’ll be about the cold season coming around just to try their coffee in a hot version (or their Hot Ozy, that sounds even more delicious than the cold ones..!).

Enough coffee rambles – I’m very sorry about it but I can’t help but highly suggest 12oz Coffee Joint if you’re around Milan these months – you also need to check that Zara denim dress out before it’s gone! It seriously resembles all I was looking into a summer dress and I’ve hunted it down by visiting four different Zara stores in four different cities to find it! Snap it up before it’s completely gone 😉

Almond + Cocoa Energizing Iced Coffee

Almond + Cocoa Energizing Iced Coffee

Can you believe I discovered iced coffee only less than a couple of years ago?! Now it’s the main thing I love about the weather getting hot; caffeine plus ice cubes is totally on the higher top of my favourite and most refreshing summer drinks. I said I was going to try and cut coffee out of my diet, but truth is that caffeine is probably my only food disobeying and treat I indulge in, and that’s nothing more energizing to me than a glass of coffee as first thing in the morning.

One thing I am actually cutting out of my diet is dairy milk, so I said goodbye to classic dairy iced lattes quite a long time ago, but to be completely honest, I’m not regretting the choice at all, as it made me discover there’re things surely more delicious of dairy milk from the plant world! Since I’ve discovered this iced coffee combination, I literally daydream of that time of the day when I indulge in one… it’s that good. Just saying. For your reference.

Serves 1 || Ingredients ::
2 espresso coffee shots
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
2 teaspoons raw brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
Almond milk & ice cubes

Mix cocoa and raw sugar into a glass, then add chilled coffee and cool almond milk as desired. Add 3 or 4 ice cubes to serve and enjoy cool! As simple as that.

I love how flavours blend together awesomely and how energizing this drink is! Definitely an afternoon or late morning treat for hot summer days (and we’re having quite a few of those here in Italy recently)!

How do you like your iced coffee? x
